Sue Maris Allen and the Reverend Barbara Ramnaraine have traveled extensively on their own and with friends and family. Both know, first-hand, the issues involved as a traveler with a disability. This mutual understanding brought them together to write Wheeling and Dealing. Sue experienced strokes in 1999 and 2000 resulting in paralysis and visual impairment. Although the visual impairment remains, she has minimal residual weakness, thanks to her physical therapist and her physicians. Barbara was legally blind at birth, and has been totally blind for over forty years. She has also received two hip replacements.

Sue worked for the State of Minnesota's Department of Human Services where she was Assistant to the Medical Director. In addition to a degree in Public Health Nursing, she earned a Master's Degree in Public Health and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota.

Barbara has served as an ordained Deacon in the Episcopal Church in the greater Minneapolis area for 21 years. She currently is coordinator of the Episcopal Disability Network for the national Episcopal Church. She graduated from Macalaster College, St. Paul, MN where she majored in chemistry with a minor in education.
